JOB SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Chief Impact Officer and Vice President of Philanthropy, the Director of Philanthropy (Principal Gifts) plays a critical role in successfully identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors who are capable of contributions at a principal giving level ($5,000,000+) NCH. This position will be responsible for articulating cases for support for priorities defined by NCH leadership and developing corresponding funding plans.

In addition to managing a portfolio of ~50-75 households, the Director works closely with Executive Leadership, physicians, volunteers, and other development staff to define resourcing plans that support the prioritized funding needs of the organization. The Director serves as a conduit and facilitator for key ambassadors of NCH to efficiently raise principal-level gifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Other duties may be assigned.

· Manages a strategic portfolio of donors and prospects for principal gift solicitation purposes.

· Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards donors and prospects capable of gifts over $5M, involving clinical and institutional leadership actively and appropriately.

· Responsible for securing a minimum of 15 gifts of $1M+ annually, with capacity captured target of 10%.

· Demonstrates strong understanding of institutional priorities and community needs with an ability to apply knowledge in the creation of proposals that balance donor and institutional goals; ensuring proposals are vetted with leadership, appropriately scoped, and well-crafted.

· Works closely with NCH leaders and serves as a liaison between ambassadors of NCH and new prospective donors.

· Engages new and current prospects by recognizing, curating, and communicating news and updates that are relevant and interesting to the individual.

· Successfully closes gifts, negotiates gift terms, and ensures gift agreements are created and followed.

· Ensures donor stewardship, providing timely, compelling, and consistent engagement and recognition with donors.

· Tracks prospect engagement activity in donor database for timely and accurate reporting.

· Actively tracks action steps associated with each assigned ambassador of NCH, ensuring timely follow up and proactive, strategic, and personalized engagement plans. Maintains transparent dashboard that captures assigned prospects, past steps, next steps, and closed gifts.

· Represents NCH in the community by participating in appropriate civic and social events.

· Defines and recommends activities that align with ambitious fundraising goals and initiatives.

· Knows and articulates the case for support of all funding priorities.

· Thoughtfully coordinates with donor relations and clinical staff to support patient access of assigned prospects.

· Influence and lead conversations on a regular basis with the Chief Impact Officer and VP of Philanthropy regarding donor feedback on NCH in the community. Create and implement next steps in addressing feedback.

· Serve as liaison between accounting and clinical teams to ensure donor intent is accomplished with gifts secured. Meet on a regular basis to review funding allocations and approved purchases related to assigned principal gifts.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Minimum bachelor’s degree.

    · Master’s and/or CFRE preferred.

    · 10-15 years of progressive career advancement in a professional fundraising career.

    · Experience in a healthcare/hospital setting preferred but not required.

    · Knowledge of fund-raising principles, especially major and planned gift development, various methods, and issues.

    · Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT CRM preferred.

    · Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

    · Self-motivated and goal oriented; tactful and mature; ability to prioritize work and implement accordingly.

    · Must have comfortable manner with people, particularly in meeting face-to-face (often alone) with prospects of known wealth and influence.

    · Requires a high degree of organization and attention to detail.

    · Willingness to work long hours, including evenings and weekends.

    · Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.

    · Intermediate computer knowledge: Microsoft Office products, Outlook, and Windows.

    · Confident and mature with an executive presence and strong emotional intelligence.

    · Strong command of fundraising best practices.
