JOB SUMMARY
The Annual Giving Officer serves as a vital ambassador for the Medical Diplomats Council (MDC), supporting donor experience, annual philanthropic cultivation, and internal education initiatives. This role connects directly with annual and leadership donors, supporting MDC growth through strategic engagement, personalized service, and collaboration across departments. The Director will partner closely with annual giving and development teams to cultivate, enhance loyalty, elevate stewardship, and identify major and planned giving opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor Patient Engagement & Experience
· Conduct qualifying conversations with new, existing, and prospective Medical Diplomats.
· Re-engage Diplomats with historically low participation and identify strategies to revitalize their involvement.
· Build relationships with prospective donors through face-to-face, virtual, and phone meetings to secure gifts ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.
· Manage an established portfolio of Medical Diplomats; identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit leadership annual giving prospects, upgrading contributions through regular in-person interactions.
· Foster long-term relationships with donors, working collaboratively with the Philanthropy team, including the Director of Annual Giving, frontline fundraisers, and support staff.
· Lead the planning and facilitation of campus tours, briefings, and personalized visits.
· Design and execute engagement strategies for unassigned or rolling-renewal Diplomats.
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with lapsed or nearly lapsed Diplomats, including those with minimal recent engagement.
Annual Giving- Strategic Cultivation & Program Support
· Collaborate with the Director of Annual Giving to align engagement strategies with annual fund goals and donor retention priorities.
· Support the execution of annual giving campaigns and initiatives by identifying and cultivating MDC members with capacity for increased giving or giving circle advancement.
· Provide insights and tracking support related to donor behaviors, preferences, and engagement patterns to inform annual giving segmentation and outreach.
· Partner with the development team to identify donors who may be suitable for elevation into the major and planned giving pipeline.
· Contribute to the evolution of giving circles by helping articulate benefits, track engagement, and support meaningful recognition efforts.
· Attend and support planning of philanthropy and community events as needed.
Grateful Patient and Post-Discharge Strategy
· Develop and lead strategy for fostering grateful patients and outreach
· Develop key performance indicators to measure success
· Lead post-discharge follow-up conversation strategy to assess experience, ensure safety, and enhance satisfaction.
· Conduct service recovery following NCH regulatory and compliance policies in collaboration with clinical leadership, focusing on resolution and relationship preservation in alignment with policies and procedures.
· Document and track engagement activities, concerns, and follow-up items with discretion and accuracy.
Internal Stewardship & Education
· Work closely with the Director of Diplomat & Navigation Services to develop and execute internal education sessions and collateral that showcase the impact of the MDC across the organization.
· Champion a culture of philanthropy by helping staff understand how to appropriately engage with Medical Diplomats, recognize giving levels, and refer potential prospects.
· Support internal stewardship efforts that involve cross-functional collaboration, including with patient services, volunteer services, and clinical departments.
· Contribute to messaging and storytelling initiatives that elevate the donor experience, particularly for annual and MDC-level supporters.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
· A seasoned professional with a minimum of 5 years of successful, demonstrated experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in healthcare, or significant comparable work in sales, or other customer-management professions
· Results-oriented professional, adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing and follow through. A team player who values collaboration, including sharing credit when appropriate.
· Skilled and experienced manager with high emotional intelligence who can flex their supervisory style to adjust to various staffing assignments; demonstrated success in using performance metrics to motivate intended behaviors and outcomes.
· Strategic thinker, with sound judgment, decision-making skills, diplomacy, exceptional and compelling verbal and written communication skills, negotiation, coaching, customer service, and the ability to close gifts.
· The successful candidate should enjoy working with people, especially high-profile donors and volunteers, be goal-oriented, and work well under pressure.
· A passion for building relationships and providing high levels of support and collaboration with colleagues and peers.
· Strategic planning experience and skills combined with the ability to build a process and path forward and bring the team along with you.
· Experience in the full breadth and depth of fundraising skills including major gifts, planned giving, operations, prospect management and capital campaigns.
· Diplomatic, able to leave ego at the door and tactfully, respectfully, and collaboratively work with a wide variety of people; altering style based on the environment
· Ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced small organizational environment.
· Confident and mature with an executive presence and strong emotional intelligence.

· Possess a strong command of fundraising best practices; demonstrated success building and leveraging processes and donor management systems to track and steward supporters.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences in a manner that they can understand and relate to.
· Understanding of HIPAA and experience in a healthcare setting is a plus
