JOB SUMMARY

In collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership, the Manager Professional Practice & Clinical Nursing Education assumes responsibility for the direction and oversight of professional practice activities, ensuring alignment with the American Nurses Association Scope and the Nursing Code of Ethics to support a Magnet level n American Nurses Credentialing Center designated professional practice environment. Promotes nursing excellence, recognition, empowerment through Shared Decision Making and professional development of nurses. The manager's key responsibilities for nursing education include education and training plans, training programs, curriculum development, mentorship/support, continual assessment and evaluation, educational program compliance and accreditation support, and collaboration with nursing leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Communication: Embraces a multi-disciplinary collaborative approach. The manager is responsible and accountable for assigned tasks such as supervising the department's daily operations, including but not limited to, being a resource and role model to staff for problem resolution with issues with patient care, service delivery, safety, supplies, equipment, computer software, and customer concerns.

· Planning: Under the leadership of the administrative director, the manager collaborates with the director in planning, goal setting, developing department budgets, and coordinating supplies/equipment, staffing, and care/service to carry out the department's responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner in conjunction with and support of the Hospital's strategic plan Provides oversight, coordination, and facilitation of the shared governance models. Provides project management support pertaining to professional practice and a culture of excellence. Determines and develops short-term and long-term educational goals based on needs identified through Quality Council, Annual Assessments, specific training needs assessments, etc.

· Organizing: Facilitates Shared Governance activities. Manages development, planning and coordination of periodic in-service training on those issues identified by the Hospital Quality Council or a designated Performance Improvement Team. Works with clinical educators to coordinate and organize nursing educational programs related to needs assessment findings and quality outcome opportunities. Ensures skill validation methods are in place for competency validation.

· Data Collection: Collects data related to clinical educational needs. Oversees and maintains all relevant professional practice files including nursing outcomes metrics to be reported in the annual nursing report. Collaborates with the Director of the Magnet program to Collect and composes narrative descriptions that reflect nursing excellence according to ANCC standards for Magnet recognition. Uses data to make relevant comparisons concerning departmental performance and makes changes to improve performance as needed.

· Initiating: Directs the fulfillment of responsibilities as designated by all programs under oversight: Shared Governance, DAISY, CARING, & Peer Feedback This includes the collection, organization, and preparation of relevant evidence and outcome data. Ensures all eligibility requirements and standards have been met and that the organization reflects the internalization of the Magnet Components. This includes supporting and leading respective professional practice initiatives such as the annual report, recognition events, and nursing academic and engagement activities. In collaboration with nursing colleagues and staff councils, develops department policies and procedures to assure that nursing care reflects current ANA standards of practice and aligned with distinction programs.

· Consultant: Serves as a resource providing consultative support to members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team concerning professional practice and nursing clinical education activities. Attends and actively participates in department and hospital-wide councils and/or committee meetings and activities, providing direction as needed. Supports the development of, and mentors others in the continued development of the shared decision-making process and professional nursing practice model. In collaboration with the Director of the Magnet Program, supports efforts to ensure the Magnet Components are enculturated into all aspects of the nursing division. Maintains and expands personal clinical expertise and knowledge by reading, attending relevant educational offerings, public speaking, participating in professional organizations and publication submissions.

· Quality: Promotes quality in a setting that supports professional nursing practice and optimal patient outcomes. collects examples of excellence in the delivery of nursing services in collaboration withAD. Demonstrates competency and supports the organization’s compliance efforts regarding all pertinent regulation, licensing, and accrediting agencies. The manager plays a major role in supporting quality initiatives through ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collection and analysis of quality and performance improvement data, assisting with development of future performance improvement targets and quality initiatives, and development or revision of department policies and procedures, as needed.

· Staff Education/Development: Plans programs and in-services to continually educate all employees. Assists in the development and delivery of professional performance-related education. Mentors staff nurses to support their role as educators and serves as an educational resource to the nursing community. Participates in projects that enhance nursing excellence and professional development. The manager ensures staff have the appropriate orientation/training and competence for the care/service provided and that all staff adhere to Exceeding Expectations standards for professional conduct.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · BSN required. Masters in related field preferred.

    · Professional certification in a specialty area preferred.

    · A minimum of 3 years nursing experience required in team facilitation, conducting education programs, project management, planning and managing complex function and processes, data analysis and/or program administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    · Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    · Current RN licensure in the state of Florida.

    · Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

    · Strong writing, editing and presentation skills.

    · Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
