JOB SUMMARY
The Administrative Director Nursing Professional Practice, Clinical Excellence, & Innovation is responsible for establishing a magnet level professional practice environment in which high quality nursing care and positive patient outcomes can be provided and achieved throughout the NCH Healthcare System. Provides expert consultation to the nursing leadership team in areas related to Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, nursing quality management, process improvement, professional development, nursing education, nursing research and regulatory compliance related to practice. He/ she serves as an essential link and subject matter expert to hospital administration, physicians, allied health professionals, and community partners to promote and ensure efficient processes and drive clinical excellence. The position is responsible for system wide preparation, organization and follow-up involved in achieving, maintaining, and supporting nursing excellence designation. The Administrative Director facilitates a culture of patient and nursing excellence through the development of supportive engaging infrastructure, the establishment of clinical proficiency models, comprehensive quality management systems, development of collaborative partnerships and program evaluation. Actively participates as a part of the nursing leadership team by assisting in the ongoing achievement of the hospitals and nursing’s strategic objectives. Demonstrates a service-oriented approach committed to excellence in internal operating systems and leads organizational change. Direct reports include the Magnet Program Director and Manager of Nursing Education, with oversight of the Clinical Educators, Nursing Research and EBP Coordinator, and the Clinical Coordinators of Nursing Practice.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation within areas as assigned.
· Serves as a consultant to the organization in nursing professional practice, maintaining a current knowledge base of the Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and nursing national trends as reported by professional organizations and the Florida Board of Nursing.
· Responsible for the direction and management of nursing structures and processes related to acquiring and maintaining American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet and/or Pathway to Excellence designation.
· Develops, supports implementation and evaluation of models of nursing practice.
· Develops budget for Professional Practice programs and works to secure funding via grants and philanthropy to support programs.
· Develops, supports implementation and evaluation of a Professional Practice Model to ensure integration and enculturation of the model.
· Provides input on, and support for, the implementation of clinical processes that result in the highest quality of care.
· Optimize operations across NCH Healthcare System ensuring effective implementation of clinical evidence-based practices and process improvement initiatives.
· Responsible for collaboration with nurse leaders for maintaining and supporting hospital systemwide designation and the mission of NCH Healthcare System.
· Responsible for the oversight and direction of nursing clinical education and models of clinical proficiency that support overall quality outcomes.
· Aligns education plan with the nursing and organizational strategic plans and goals.
· Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure nursing competency and regulatory compliance.
· Conducts the nursing organizational needs assessment and develops and implements plans for program development and addresses learning gaps.
· Supports innovative processes which empower clinicians to contribute to the ownership of practice and quality of care.
· Facilitates and oversees the sustainability and growth of nursing professional development programs such as Charge nurse academy, preceptor program, competency fairs.
· Ensures the facilitation of communication for clinical practice and equipment changes.
· Oversees the Coordination of direct clinical training programs, scheduling, curriculum development and implementation, staffing, and instruction.
· Ensures that nurses are current in competencies, assessments, licensures, certifications, and annual training and that competency programs are aligned to support requirements associated with each.
· Collaborates with other departments and professionals to streamline educational operations.
· Leads the development, implementation, evaluation, and redesign of Nursing Shared Governance System ensuring leadership representative on councils as needed and guiding decision-making for at the system, service line and unit level.
· Facilitates and oversees the development, implementation, evaluation and redesign of the EXCEL Nursing Clinical Ladder program, the STRONG surgical technician clinical ladder program, Peer Review, and other nursing professional practice programs.
· Provides guidance to ancillary department to develop, implement, evaluate and redesign Clinical Ladder Programs including therapies (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and Language Therapy); Respiratory Department and Surgical Technologists.
· Develops and implements standards of practice and evaluates compliance.
· Develops and modifies position descriptions to support nursing practice requirements.
· Assures regulatory, accreditation and legal requirements associated with nursing practice are met.
· Develops policies and procedures in support of nursing practice.
· Acts to identify, prevent, or minimize sources of medical/legal or financial risk associated with nursing practice and documentation of practice.
· Develops and evaluates initiatives with the Health System Foundation to encourage philanthropic support of Department of Nursing activities.
· Partners with the senior nursing team to co-develop, implement, evaluate, and revise the Department of Nursing Strategic Plan.
· Support the NCH strategic pillar of Community involvement through participation in sponsored initiatives.
· Facilitates and oversees professional recognition initiatives such as Nurses Week, DAISY, the CARING program, and other nursing recognition programs.
· Facilitates the content development and review and publication of Department of Nursing media releases, Annual Report and periodic newsletters, and Nursing Message Board.
· Develops and supervises the nursing quality management program and data transparency for the Nursing Department – with direct oversight of the Clinical Coordinator roles.
· Serves as Health System Coordinator of National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) assuring quarterly submission of nursing sensitive indicators, report analysis and dissemination to nursing leaders.
· Develops mechanisms for the ongoing monitoring and trending of nursing sensitive quality indicators and patient safety goals at the department and service unit level.
· Develops, maintains, and supports an internal consultation network of facilitators for process improvement and team building. Facilities PI teams as necessary.
· Collaborates with the nursing directors and unit/service managers to develop a dynamic quality management plan, utilizing industry benchmarks and quantifiable outcome measures.
· Serves as the primary nursing liaison for interdisciplinary quality management activities, serving on appropriate committees.
· Collaborates with Nursing leaders and ancillary staff to assure regulatory, quality indicators and processes are evaluated and modified to support standards of care and professional practice approaches.
· In collaboration with the director of education, nursing directors, unit managers and organizational development leaders, implements educational philosophy, strategy, programming, and evaluation in support of nursing practice.
· Leads in the development of an environment conducive to learning and continuous professional development.
· Serves as the primary liaison with the educational institutions, students and faculty utilizing the hospital or its resources.
· Evaluates and recommends technologies and library content in support of nursing practice.
· Assists in the creation of an environment in which new knowledge is continually incorporated into clinical practice.
· Develops a process for the dissemination and utilization of evidence-based practice to access, appraise, and demonstrate integration into practice change and decision making.
· Develops a process for the dissemination of nursing research into the practice setting.
· Provides oversight and review of nursing research proposals submitted to the IRB.
· Collaborates in the submission of grants to support nursing practice, education, and research in the practice setting.
· Facilitates research and identifies opportunities for collaboration with academic settings in nursing research.
· Facilitates nursing quality, evidence-based practice and research abstract submissions for podium or poster local, regional, national, and international presentation.
· Serves as a consultant to staff in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
· Master’s degree in Nursing or related field required.
· Doctorate (DNP) preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing leadership role(s).
· Demonstrated leadership and management ability are required, as well as the ability to work in a matrix structure, develop high performance teams and effectively champion organizational change are essential.
· Comprehensive knowledge of nursing standards of care, QA/QI concepts, external regulatory requirements, evidence of research activities, publications, and grant writing and management.
· Strong organizational and project management skills.
· Experience and knowledge of the ANCC Magnet and Pathway to Excellence Program.
· RN licensure for the State of Florida required.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
· National certification in professional specialty within 2 years of hire.
