JOB SUMMARY
The Monitor Technician works collaboratively with the nursing staff. The primary responsibility is continuous surveillance of patients being telemetry monitored.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
· Identify and immediately report significant changes in heart rate, heart rate abnormalities and arrhythmias to the nursing staff.
· Initiate “Code Blue” for life-threatening rhythm changes.
· Differentiates between artifact, leads off, alerts and lethal alarms.
· Escalates and prioritizes communication to nursing staff regarding telemetry alerts and alarms.
· Communicates appropriately and clearly to nursing staff, co-workers and physicians.
· Remains alert and attentive to assigned patient rhythms.
· Performs hand off to oncoming shift, detailing pertinent patient telemetry issues.
· Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
· Notifies the nursing staff, Clinical Engineering, Director/Manager or Administrative Coordinator of system malfunction.
· Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful conditions.
· Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of monitors utilized.
· Assist in orienting and training of new staff.
· Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees and hospital related activities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
· Successful completion of hospital-based telemetry class and passing of post-test is required within 30 days of hire and annually.
· Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
