JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Finance – Medical Group is a key financial leader responsible for managing all aspects of financial operations for designated clinical service lines, including the Heart Institute and Orthopedics. This role will oversee general ledger functions, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, lead service line profitability analysis, and manage the preparation and submission of IRS Form 990. The Director collaborates closely with clinical leadership, operational teams, and executive leadership to support data-driven decision-making and strategic growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Line Financial Reporting:
· Lead the development and maintenance of accurate and actionable financial reports for the Heart Institute, Orthopedics, and Oncology service lines.
· Analyze service line performance, including revenue, expenses, physician productivity, contribution margin, and trends.
· Partner with operational and clinical leadership to assess financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
· Support strategic planning initiatives by providing financial modeling, forecasting, and ROI analysis for new or expanding services.
General Ledger & Financial Operations Oversight:
· Oversee month-end and year-end close processes for the medical group and assigned service lines.
· Ensure accuracy of the general ledger and compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and external audit requirements.
· Manage the accounting for Joint Venture entities (e.g. ASC’s)
· Manage finance staff responsible for reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting.
Regulatory & Tax Compliance:
· Lead the annual preparation of IRS Form 990 and related schedules, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with organizational disclosures.
· Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors as necessary.
· Monitor and interpret changes in healthcare finance regulations and tax law to ensure ongoing compliance.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
· Assist in the development and monitoring of annual operating budgets and multi-year forecasts for the assigned service lines and entities.
· Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Leadership & Collaboration:
· Supervise and mentor finance team members to foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and performance excellence.
· Act as a finance liaison between the medical group, corporate finance, and service line leadership.
· Communicate complex financial information in a clear and actionable way to non-financial stakeholders.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or MS in Finance/Accounting) strongly preferred.
· Minimum 7–10 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
· Experience in healthcare finance required; experience with medical group operations or service line reporting is highly desirable.
· Familiarity with IRS Form 990 preparation preferred.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and healthcare reimbursement models.
· Proven ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
· Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
· Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Infor, EPIC, Strata, etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
