JOB SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Director Development Philanthropy will be responsible for successfully identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors who give and/or are capable of giving more than $50,000 to NCH Healthcare System, including individuals, corporations and foundations. Works with Foundation Committee members, Executive Management, trustees, physicians, volunteers, and other development staff to identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects. As part of the Foundation team, the Director of Development assists with strategic leadership in the design and implementation of programs needed to sustain major gift fundraising activities. Primary responsibilities will include assisting the Foundation with all fund-raising activities including capital and major gifts, donor recognition and cultivation, planned to give, grant-writing, special events, annual giving programs, and other initiatives to increase private support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Other duties may be assigned.

· Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation within areas as assigned.

· Provides guidance, supervision and annual evaluations of the Associate Directors who will assist the department with all fund-raising activities. 

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Bachelor’s Degree required.

    · Master’s degree preferred.

    · Four or more years in a non-profit development setting, preferably in health care, with a history of increasingly responsible duties. Knowledge of fund-raising principles, especially major and planned gift development, various methods, and issues.

    · Experience with Raiser’s Edge Fund Raising software helpful and other computer software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, contact management software, etc.

    · Ability to work effectively in a team and independently. Self-motivated and goal oriented; tactful and mature; ability to prioritize work and implement accordingly.

    · Must have comfortable manner with people, particularly in meeting face-to-face (often alone) with prospects of known wealth and influence.

    · Requires a high degree of organization and attention to detail.

    · Willingness to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, especially during “season”.

    · Excellent oral, writing, and interpersonal skill required.

    · Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
