JOB SUMMARY

In collaboration with the Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program, clinical and administrative leadership, the Coordinator Professional Practice assumes responsibility for the oversight and coordination of professional practice activities & programs, ensuring alignment with the American Nurses Association Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance to support a Pathway to Excellence and/or Magnet level professional practice environment. This includes oversight of nursing shared governance programs, evidence-based practice, the cascading of nursing department communication, programs of distinction (Pathway & Magnet), and recognition programs (DAISY, CARING, Nurses Week). The Coordinator Professional Practice collaborates with all aspects of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Recognition Program(s) (Pathway and/or Magnet) including the application, designation, and re-designation process, under the direction of the Director Professional Practice. Serves as the Pathway and/or Magnet advisor to the nursing leadership team, collaborates with the Magnet Steering committee, and functions as a liaison to hospital departments and consultative resource for administration, nursing, non-nursing employees, physicians, and community. Promotes nursing excellence, recognition, empowerment through shared governance, nursing peer review, and professional development of nurses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Communication: Embraces a multi-disciplinary collaborative approach to cascade pertinent nursing strategic plans and outcomes. Serves as liaison between NCH leadership and Pathway to Excellence or Magnet stakeholders including nursing and hospital staff, physicians, and the community to ensure a positive partnership. Works collegially and openly with all stakeholders to communicate the vision, report the progress, create solutions and motivate and engage employees in demonstrating a Pathway and/or Magnet environment.

· Embodies professional practice standards of performance through written works, public speaking, professional leadership and research. In collaboration with the Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program and Magnet Program Coordinator, designs and implements marketing initiatives including assisting in the dissemination of information to all stakeholders.

· Planning: In collaboration with the Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program and interprofessional team members, provide oversight, coordination, and facilitation for an action plan, project schedules, and Pathway or Magnet budget to the organization’s pursuit of Pathway or Magnet designation and the achievement of nursing professional practice activities. Establishes a timeline and milestones in order to maintain designation focus across the organization. Provides oversight, coordination, and facilitation of the shared governance models. Provides project management support pertaining to professional practice and a culture of excellence.

· Organizing: Enables shared governance activities. Provides oversight of the tracking and monitoring of council performance. Acts as a resource for the Nursing Excellence Council regarding the Nursing Professional Practice Model, Care Delivery System, the Pathway or Magnet components and any professional practice projects as assigned. Assists in the development and maintenance of a core group of Nursing Excellence/Magnet Champions. Develops and leads informational sessions. Maintains current knowledge of the ANCC programs of distinction designation requirements and process, assisting with incorporating updated standards and practice into department operations in collaboration with the Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program and Council membership.

· Data Collection: Oversees and supports all relevant professional practice files of evidence, including nursing outcomes metrics to be reported in the annual nursing report, and Magnet/Pathway narratives. Assist with collection and compose narrative descriptions that reflect nursing excellence according to ANCC standards for Magnet or Pathway recognition. Coordinates demographic data requirements required for reporting of all nursing staff credentials, education, unit demographics, and organizational overview.

· Initiating: Collaborates the fulfillment of responsibilities as designated by all programs under oversight: Shared Governance, DAISY, CARING, Peer Review, Evidence-Based Practice, and Pathway to Excellence and/or Magnet Recognition Program. This includes the collection, organization, and preparation of relevant evidence and outcome data. Ensures all eligibility requirements and standards have been met and that the organization reflects the internalization of the Magnet Components. This includes supporting and leading respective professional practice initiatives such as the annual report, recognition events, and nursing academic and engagement activities. In collaboration with nursing colleagues and staff councils, develops department policies and procedures to assure that nursing care reflects current Components of Magnet and Sources of Evidence, and ANA standards of practice.

· Designation/Re-designation: Under the direction and in collaboration with the Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program coordinates and conducts all aspects of the Magnet or Pathway document initial and renewal submission process. Assists with Submission of application and supporting documentation in fulfillment of all requirements in a timely manner. Provides an environment of motivation and commitment to designation status through celebration, communication, and education. Assist with coordination with the Magnet site visit and Pathway survey.

· Consultant: Serves as a resource providing consultative support to nursing leadership, nursing staff, and all members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team concerning professional practice activities and the Magnet or Pathway journey. Provides planning input to assure alignment with program Components. Attends and actively participates in department and hospital-wide councils and/or committee meetings and activities, providing direction as needed. Supports the development of, and mentors others in the continued development of the shared governance process and professional nursing practice model. Directs and/or supports efforts to ensure the Magnet Components are enculturated into all aspects of the nursing division. Maintains and expands personal clinical expertise and knowledge by reading, attending relevant educational offerings, public speaking, participating in professional organizations and publication submissions.

· Quality: Maintains data integrity and ensures quality data sources are consistent in collaboration with the Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program Promotes quality in a setting that supports professional nursing practice and collects examples of excellence in the delivery of nursing services. Responsible for monitoring nurse sensitive indicators and data submission and reporting of indicators in collaboration with Director of Pathway to Excellence Magnet Program. Demonstrates competency and supports the organization’s compliance efforts regarding all pertinent regulation, licensing, and accrediting agencies.

· Research: Directs and oversees the coordination of a formal nursing research program prioritized towards the nursing strategic plan and Magnet or Pathway requirements.

· Staff Education/Development: Plans programs and in-services to continually educate all employees along the Magnet or Pathway Journey.

· Assists in the development and delivery of professional performance-related education. Mentors staff nurses to support their role as educators in the Magnet or Pathway process and serve as an educational resource to the nursing community.

· Participates in projects that enhance nursing excellence and professional development. Serves as member of the EXCELL Clinical Ladder committee.

· The person in this role will provide additional support to unit-based leadership, preceptors, new grad RN residents, and Education department committees as assigned. The learning environment may be the physical classroom, bedside, and simulation laboratory settings as well as the independent self-directed learning and virtual environments.

· Encourages and supports nurse residents in the engagement of evidence-based practice process and utilization.

    · Promote professional nursing association memberships and specialty certifications

      EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

      · Minimum of a Bachelor degree of Nursing Required, Masters preferred.

      · A minimum of 2 years’ nursing experience required in team facilitation, conducting education programs, project management, planning and managing complex function and processes, data analysis and/or program administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

      · Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida required.

      · Professional certification in a specialty area preferred.

      · Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

      · Prefer experience as a member of team that has achieved or pursuing Pathway or Magnet designation with knowledge of or participation in Shared Decision Making, understanding of Magnet concepts highly preferred.

      · Strong writing, editing and presentation skills.

        · Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
