JOB SUMMARY

The Coding Specialist Lead will support and assist the Manager Revenue Cycle Coding with developing materials and delivering provider and coder education based on coding guidelines and federal and state regulations. The Coding Specialist Lead is responsible for coding and documentation support for the physicians and coders. This individual must be able to communicate effectively with providers, coders, and other leadership, and participate in the continual improvement of coding and physician documentation. The Coding Specialist Lead will assist with daily oversight of coding operations. This may include work volume distribution, workflow evaluations, and testing. The Coding Specialist Lead will assist the Manager with staff reviews and timecard management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of coding staff, reviewing timecards, and monitoring coder productivity

· Performs research and assists with general coding as needed and as requested.

· Responsible for monitoring coding work queues, including deployment of coders to areas of greatest need.

· Evaluates workflows for maximum efficiencies and problem solve work queue issues when accounts/charges are not flowing properly.

· Opens tickets with IT Department to resolve any work queue deficiencies.

· Responsible for answering charging and coding questions from coders and billing staff.

· Initiates a physician query when there is conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous documentation in the record or additional information is needed for accurate coding.

· Remains abreast of all applicable Federal, State Regulatory and physician specific guidelines.

· Assists with education for providers and coders.

· Performs coder audits as assigned by Manager and assists Manager with delivery of results.

· Responsible for training of onboarding coders and continuing education.

· Supports Revenue Cycle Billing & Denial Specialists with verbiage to research coding denials and provides verbiage to use in appeal.

· Maintain and model standards of excellence

· Ensures confidentiality of all patient accounts by following HIPAA guidelines.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Minimum of High School diploma or GED required.

    · Minimum of 3 years multi-specialty coding experience required.

    · CPC credential from American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)required.

    · CPMA credential from AAPC preferred.

    · Keeps current on required CEUs for certification.

    · Extensive knowledge of medical terminology.

    · Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

    · Strong interpersonal skills.

    · Comfortable providing education to a large group of individuals.

    · Must have excellent communication skills- both verbal and written.

      · Computer experience with PC environment required.

      · Detail oriented, analytical skills, root cause analysis, ability to problem solve and recommend solutions.

      · Must be detail oriented with the ability to work independently.

      · Ability to meet deadlines.

        · Ability collaborate and promote teamwork.
