JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Technician Operating Room HSS provides support for the OR’s by providing transport of patients, positioning assistance, room turnover and cleaning, stocking supplies, and provides direct patient care under the direction of a nurse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

· Demonstrates the ability to perform, assist, reinforce, and deliver patient care under direction of a nurse.

· Demonstrates ability to multi-task.

· Demonstrates proper, thorough, and timely cleaning of suites between cases within expected turnover timelines. Restores furniture to proper position. Cleans specialized surgical equipment, before and after procedure following the manufacturer’s guidelines. Cleans Physiologic monitoring equipment and returns to ready state for next Patient.

· Always applies principles of standard precautions. Safely solidifies and disposes of blood and other bio-waste after each procedure.

· Maintains and stocks supplies and equipment, replenishing both on an ongoing basis throughout the assigned shift, in a fast-effective manner, includes IV Fluids.

· Delivers urine, blood, sputum, and stool specimens to the lab, as directed.

· Identifies correct specimen and documentation for all frozen sections, Microbiology and Cytology specimens before transport.

· Performs EKG, inputs accurate data into the EKG machine prior to completing procedure and immediately presents review to the attending physician.

· Instructs and/or reinforces appropriate patient care activities under direction of nurse.

· Responds timely to all requests and communicates appropriately.

· Demonstrates the ability to recognize and perform emergency measures including CPR when indicated.

· Demonstrates and maintains annual competency with patient specific procedures.

· Enters timely and accurate documentation into the electronic medical record.

· Reports pertinent patient changes and/or clinical findings to primary care partner.

· Insertion and removal of indwelling urinary catheters under the direction of a nurse.

· Assists staff with patient positioning and transfers. Correctly identifies patient by armband and reports any delays in transport immediately to charge nurse.

· Responds promptly to all pages from peri-operative areas. Runs errands to other departments in a timely manner. Will co-sign Blood release form in Blood Bank after verification of name date of birth and blood ID number. Transports blood to appropriate suite and validates correct Patient with RN.

· Housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and order in the department.

· Returns equipment to appropriate area after use.

· Cleans and makes up patient stretchers and beds as needed.

· Washes schedule board strips.

· Utilizes free time to wipe down equipment and keep hallways clear.

· Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve.

· Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget. Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Minimum of High School diploma or GED required.

    · Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

    · Must satisfy one of the following:

    o Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the current State of Florida licensure with 1 year of full time CNA experience in a skilled nursing facility or hospital setting, a new graduate CNA with State of Florida licensure and have been from a CNA program that is recognized by the US Department of Education.

    o RN student that has completed nursing fundamentals or caring scholar course and continually be actively enrolled in an RN Nursing program and must provide transcripts every semester.

    o Graduate of an RN program who is pending authorization (receipt of letter) to test for the NCLEX (up to four months) or has not passed their first NCLEX and is awaiting second test (has four months to obtain RN license).

    o Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with current valid Florida Licensure and work experience required.
