JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Technician EMT provides direct patient care under the direction of a nurse and performs other tasks necessary for unit operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Other duties may be assigned.
· Demonstrates the ability to perform, assist, reinforce, and deliver patient care.
· Demonstrates ability to manage a multiple patient care assignment based on unit acuity and staffing levels.
· Receives reports from primary care partner and completes assignments in a timely and organized manner.
· Instructs and/or reinforces appropriate patient care activities under the direction of licensed professional.
· Responds timely to all patient requests and communicates to the appropriate caregiver when necessary.
· Demonstrates the ability to recognize and perform emergency measures including CPR when indicated.
· Demonstrates and maintains annual competency with patient specific procedures.
· Enters timely and accurate documentation into the electronic medical record.
· Reports pertinent patient changes and/or clinical findings to primary care partner.
· Inputs accurate data into the EKG machine prior to completing procedure and presents to primary care partner.
· Performs phlebotomy per policy.
· Collects, labels, and/or delivers urine, blood, sputum, and stool specimens to the lab, as directed, utilizing Universal Precautions.
· Applies orthopedic splints under direction of the Registered Nurse/Physician/Provider and documents in the electronic medical record.
· Assists with the application of simple dressings, utilizing aseptic technique.
· Accurately performs glucometer finger stick. Accurately performs POCT. Performs quality control.
· Performs venipuncture following hospital protocol.
· Provides post-mortem care.
· Assists Clinicians or Public Safety with the application of restraints when applicable in the care of a violent/combative patient.
· Transport patients to other areas of the hospital as needed.
· Acts as a patient sitter when one to one observation is required for patient care.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of High School diploma or GED required.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
· Valid Licensure as an EMT in the State of Florida with acute care experience required.
· Orthopedic experience strongly preferred.
· Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
