JOB SUMMARY
The Birth Registrar is responsible for completing all legal birth/fetal death certificates of all infants born at or en-route to North Naples Hospital. Is knowledgeable of State laws pertaining to newborns and maintains a close working relationship with the Collier County Health Department Birth Registrar. Requires a great deal of judgment and decision-making. Needs good communication and problem solving skills in relating to different parental social situations. Confidentiality is of the highest importance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
· Obtains accurate information needed to complete the legal birth certificate and/or fetal death certificate. Communicates with the parents. Presents them with the information to review for accuracy, makes any corrections, and obtains and notarizes proper signatures for the legal document.
· Prepare the legal birth certificates, error free, utilizing the Birth Type software.
· Complete the NCH complimentary birth certificate for the parents. Utilizes skill and judgment in handling customer issues dealing with birth registration, state specific rules and regulations.
· Verifies demographic information in the Master Patient Index by comparing with the legal birth certificate. Updates and/or corrects information as needed.
· Creates birth log report from the Birth Type software and electronically transmits a weekly listing of births for the Vital Statistics office and the local newspapers.
· Develop ability to "reason through" problems and provide solutions. Consistently works with sense of urgency.
· Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
· Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.
· Maintains the principles of confidentiality. Understands the legal/regulatory requirements related to the release of information. Able to use the information systems pertinent to the job.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
·Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.
· Minimum of 6 months of experience as a Birth Registrar or related field required.
· Excellent Customer Service Skills.
· Technical skills in BirthType or related software.
· Ability to keep and maintain confidential records.
· Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
