JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor Phlebotomy and Processing directs the daily workflow of the Phlebotomy and Processing areas. The Supervisor Phlebotomy and Processing ensures that procedures and methods are performed according to protocol, following lean principles. The Supervisor Phlebotomy and Processing also develops policies and procedures in conjunction with the Processing Coordinator and/or Lead Phlebotomist. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Other duties may be assigned.

· Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation within areas as assigned.

· Supervise the daily operations of the Phlebotomy department and the Processing department.

· Implements and monitors workflow through lean processes and principles.

· Ensures that staff follows the objective of specimen collection and handling:

o Specimens are collected in a timely manner

o Specimens are collected from the correct patient.

o Specimens are collected in the proper tubes and/or bottles using proper technique.

o Specimens are efficiently delivered to the laboratory.

o Specimens are processed using established protocols.

· Ensures compliance by monitoring day-by-hour worksheets and balanced scorecard information.

· Maintains training and competency records.

· Recognizes and works with staff to ensure staff professionalism and that all staff follow the AHA Patient Bill of Rights.

· Maintains inventory and supplies, keeping operational expenses less than or equal to approved budget.

· Organizes time efficiently and delegates appropriately.

· Reviews statistics, take specific corrective action and documents results as required.

· Directs the process for the implementation of new procedures, processes and policies by assigning projects, reviewing documentation, and coordinating the writing of procedures.

· Communicates effectively with staff to relay pertinent information and is open to receiving feedback. Communicates well with all areas outside the laboratory providing prompt and courteous responses.

· Completes competency assessments of personnel and conducts employee-counseling sessions to correct disciplinary problems in a timely manner and with a fair consideration for all employees. Gives positive feedback and appreciation to staff.

· Creates an effective team environment by using chain of command for problem solving and conflict resolution.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Minimum of High School or GED required.

    · Minimum of 3 years of experience in Phlebotomy/processing required.

    · Outstanding leadership skills necessary.

    · Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
