JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Echo Sonographer demonstrates competence in the area of Cardiac Ultrasound Technology. Assigns staff to work assignments and coordinates equipment maintenance. Acts as a liaison for patient care activities with outside departments. Observes activities of staff, set expectations, coach and counsel. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists director in maintaining standards of lab’s national accreditation.
  • Assists director in quarterly quality improvement data collection and meetings.
  • Assures appropriate staffing in multiple sites.
  • Updates Amnion call schedule on a monthly basis.
  • Assists director in establishing policies and corrective actions.
  • Expert knowledge of TEE scope processing system.
  • Provides clinical and technical support to staff in director’s absence.
  • High level knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathology.
  • High level of competence in imaging cardiac structures and pathology.
  • Performs all critical care requests within department time guidelines.
  • Familiar with transesophageal echocardiography.
  • Demonstrates competence in adult and pediatric imaging and pathology.
  • Assists director in performance reviews and corrective actions.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree required.
    • Graduate of an AMA approved Ultrasound program.
    • Must be registered under one of the following agencies:
    • R. D. M. S.- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with a specialty in Cardiology
    • R. D. C. S.- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
    • R. C. S.- Registered Cardiac Sonographer
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a hospital-based Echo Technologist required.
    • Must have experience with advanced cardiac imaging.
    • Must have strong organizational, communication and technical skills.
    • Must have an understanding of national accreditation requirements and QI requirements.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • Ability to work occasional weekends if necessary.
    • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
