JOB SUMMARY
The Donor Communications Specialist will partner closely with the Chief Impact Officer, Philanthropy Department, and Marketing Department in the development and execution of a donor communications strategy. The position will lead the creation of impactful messaging and story arcs for critical initiatives, engaging all donors at all levels of giving, and developing compelling communications. The Specialist will deliver a variety of communications and collateral, including campaign case materials, presentations, proposals, newsletters, and stewardship reports to attract new donors and inspire current donors to increase their philanthropic investment in NCH.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Partner with executive and department leadership in the development of a thoughtful donor communications strategy.
· Lead the creation and delivery of communications products that will support successful fundraising initiatives.
· Consistently develop and produce inspiring communications pieces – both customized and for broader consumption – to support outreach to prospective and current donors.
· Collaborate with leadership on case materials, work with gift officers on gift opportunity collateral and customized solicitation proposals.
· Prepare talking points and scripts that effectively engage and influence the relevant audience.
· Work closely with NCH Marketing partners to align cadence, content, and distribution strategies for various audiences.
· Interview faculty and translate their vision into a compelling case for support.
· Manage production of numerous communications projects simultaneously.
· Utilize persuasive writing skills and message expertise to build relationships with NCH constituents.
· Coordinate content review process and incorporate feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
· Track communications calendar and adhere to deadlines.
· Serve as a trusted source of information about NCH funding priorities.
· While this position is focused on communications and writing, an ability to work with graphic designers and guide the development of compelling visuals is required.
· Ensure all communications are consistent with NCH brand and aligned with organizational goals.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Required:
o Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
o 2 years' experience writing specifically for fundraising in a non-profit organization.
o Interest in and basic knowledge of healthcare.
· Preferred:
o Professional experience writing about healthcare.
o Experience translating complex concepts into lay language and synthesizing material from multiple sources to produce succinct materials for diverse audiences.
o Experience partnering with designers or communications agencies.
o Proficiency with Canva, Adobe InDesign, or other design platforms.
o Prior experience with Raiser’s Edge or other nonprofit database software.

o Excellent writing and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner for print, online and other media.
o Ability to write copy that not only explains complex concepts but persuades audiences to take action.
o Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills; the ability to quickly grasp complex and technical information, specifically about medicine and synthesize it into clear accurate and persuasive prose.
o Ability to bring imagination, ingenuity, and creativity to solving problems and developing a comprehensive communications strategy.
o Strong copyediting and proofreading skills.
o Ability to change voice and writing style to fit different audiences, purposes, and media.
· Highly collaborative with the capacity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders:
o Ability to work closely with fundraisers, designers, and interact effectively with a diverse array of people, including senior leaders and clinicians.
o Willingness to accept and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders.
o Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully, directly, and effectively with others.
