JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) Fellowship is a structured hands-on clinical training program designed to prepare qualified healthcare professionals for a career in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Under the direct supervision and mentorship of an experienced CVT/RCIS, Cath Lab Nurse, Interventional Cardiologist, and leadership, the RCIS fellow will develop the knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment and professional competencies necessary to safely participate in diagnostic, structural, interventional and EP procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Obtains and sets-up appropriate sterile and unsterile items needed for procedure.
· Creates and maintains a sterile environment while opening sterile supplies.
· Utilizes sterile process to assist physician during procedures, which includes all the following: maintain sterile field, anticipate needs, and understand use and proper preparation of invasive devices.
· Participates in pre-verification checklist and time outs. Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to procedure and before incision is closed.
· Assist with surgical procedures including such activities as gowning and gloving surgeon, assisting with draping the sterile field, passing/exchanging equipment to surgeon during procedure.
· Keeps accurate records throughout the procedure.
· Ensures correct labeling and handling of surgical specimens and medications.
· Applies and secures sterile dressings after incision closure. May need to apply manual pressure to access site.
· Assist in patient care within scope of practice. Reports observed changes in patient status to physician and RN.
· Helps transport patient post procedure to the recovery room.
· At end of case prepares instruments for cleaning and reprocessing.
· Assists in cleaning procedural room, room turnover, and preparing for next patient.
· Reports supply and equipment needs to inventory specialist, distributes items to appropriate area.
· Complete a minimum of one year of specialty training in the Cardiac Cath Lab and at least 800 clinical hours.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· High school graduate or equivalent.
· RCIS certification required within 2 years of start date.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
· Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 1 year of hire.
· Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
