JOB SUMMARY
The Radiology Support Specialist serves as a first point of contact for coordinating Radiology Services for outpatients, internal and external providers, and other clinical support staff. The Specialist assists in the implementation and support of medical imaging applications, information systems, software, and radiology daily workflow in all imaging departments. Maintains schedules, inventory, and charges for assigned locations. Schedules complex Radiology exams and procedures while providing the best care and customer satisfaction for a positive patient experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Manages complex scheduling and coordination of services for Radiology appointment requests. Coordinates availability of Radiologist, nurse, and procedural room to streamline workflow.
· Receives outpatients to the Radiology Department, ensures valid prescription, and in puts RIS system orders.
· Tracks scheduled appointments and coordinates with department staff to provide a smooth progression through the appointment.
· Verifies patient demographics and insurance verification for authorization to obtain optimal reimbursement.
· Responsible for knowledge and understanding of clinical criteria for procedural scheduling.
· Prepares patient charts prior to date of procedure, ensuring all necessary documents are scanned into RIS.
· Ensures that the patients are informed of their wait times, screening requirements and collection of medical forms. Communicates and coordinates with patients, their families and staff regarding radiology procedures.
· Responsible for working with referring providers to obtain physician orders, clinical documents and prior radiology exam and reports for consultations and procedural scheduling.
· Responsible for verification and investigation of pre-certification, authorization, and referral requirements for services. Communicates with billing team for day of procedural changes to ensure authorizations are updated to reflect procedures being performed.
· Coordinates with charge/lead tech regarding add-ons, patients needing interventions and other emergencies.
· Performs data integrity and validation of transferred/copied images to ensure no data loss or data collision has occurred. Investigates and performs patient combinations in all downstream systems. Imports and exports radiology images when requested.
· Maintains thorough knowledge of policies, system resolution techniques, and system downtime processes.
· Answers department telephone calls, transfers calls to appropriate staff, makes appointment reminder calls to patients.
· Position requires telephone work, customer interface and the ability to work independently and use sound judgement.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· High School or GED required, Associates/bachelor’s or Healthcare Certificate preferred.
· Minimum 1 year experience in patient registration, patient scheduling or customer service role required.
· Organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask.
· Data entry experience and medical background preferred.
· Strong customer service, oral and written communication skills.
· Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy preferred.
