JOB SUMMARY

The Lab Technologist Lead oversees and assists with daily technical operations, coordinating workflow and overseeing the scheduling of staff. The Lead Lab Technologist evaluates clinical specimens, acts as key operator performing advanced troubleshooting techniques when maintaining instruments, actively participates in performance improvement, develops new procedures, facilitates training and competence, determines problem resolution in emergency situations and maintains supplies and inventory in a cost effective manner. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Evaluates clinical specimens with accuracy following established protocols.

· Maintains equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions.

· Calls and documents critical values when applicable.

· Oversees Quality Control and performs troubleshooting when controls are out of range.

· Able to use the information system pertinent to the job.

· Calibrates methods and instruments as needed.

· Assists Supervisor in the review of laboratory results and in the collection of statistical information. Interprets laboratory data using independent judgement to identify unusual results, and initiates problem resolution.

· Subject matter expert in one or more lab area and oversee technical aspects of this area, such as new test evaluation and method validation, staff training, communication, and other aspects.

· Assists others in the department promoting an effective team.

· Identifies patient specimens correctly.

· Demonstrates Leadership and Problem-Solving skills.

· Reviews and evaluates laboratory reports as requested.

· Flexible staffing to meet the department needs. Performs work as bench Technologist as assigned.

· Assist Supervisor in preparation for CAP inspections. Assists with ordering, inventory, and putting away of supplies.

· Uses independent judgement to analyze situations and takes appropriate action to ensure continuity of laboratory services.

· Assists with analytical and clinical validation of new protocols and equipment.

· Oversees the department in the Supervisor’s absence.

· Evaluates clinical specimens with accuracy following established protocols.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of Florida in all five specialty areas required.

    · Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent required in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.

    · Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Laboratory Technologist required.

    · Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
